Grade 30 Proof Coil Chain
About Grade 30 Proof Coil Chain
What is a grade 30 chain?
A grade 30 chain, also known as proof coil chain, is a low-carbon steel chain designed for general-purpose applications. It offers reliable strength for light- to moderate-duty uses but is not rated for overhead lifting. For overhead lifting applications, we offer Grade 80 and Grade 100 Alloy Chain.
What is a grade 30 chain used for?
A grade 30 chain is commonly used for general utility applications, including tie-downs, barrier chains, marine use (when galvanized), farming, light towing, and logging. They are ideal for situations that do not require a high-strength transport or lifting chain.
What can a grade 30 chain not be used for?
Grade 30 chain is not approved for overhead lifting, heavy load securement, or high-strength transport applications. It should not be used where OSHA or DOT regulations require a higher-grade chain.
What types of grade 30 chains does Fehr offer?
We offer Grade 30 (proof coil) chain in the following trade sizes: 1/2″, 1/4″, 3/16”, 3/4″, 3/8″, 5/16”, 5/8″, with three finish options depending on size: self-colored/unplated, zinc plated (electro-galvanized), and hot dip galvanized.
What is grade 30 steel?
Grade 30 steel is low-carbon (mild) steel that meets industry standards for Grade 30 chain strength. It provides good durability and flexibility for general-purpose applications, but does not have the higher tensile strength of transport or lifting grades.
What is the difference between grade 30 and grade 43 chain?
Grade 43 chain (high test chain) has a higher tensile strength and working load limit than grade 30 chain. While both are used for utility purposes, Grade 43 is better suited for heavier-duty towing and securement applications.
Is grade 30 chain galvanized for outdoor or marine use?
Yes, we do offer Grade 30 chain in galvanized finishes for outdoor and marine use, but availability depends on size. Our Grade 30 proof coil chain is available in hot-dip galvanized (hot galvanized) and electro-galvanized (zinc-plated) options for added corrosion resistance, as well as self-colored/unplated. Please note that 1/8″ is stocked in bright finish only, while 5/8″ and 3/4″ are stocked in hot galvanized only.
